DESTE
Partnership with all YES!Hotels

YES!Hotels is proud of its partnership with the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art, a non-profit institution based in Athens, Greece. Established in Geneva in 1983 by Dakis Joannou, one of the foremost collectors of contemporary art, DESTE has been at the forefront of the international art scene, vividly exploring the connections between art and culture. DESTE has created and cultivated, through a dynamic and 'non-institutional' exhibition program, a community of both prominent and emerging artists, nurturing and promoting their potential. DESTE publications have celebrated these collaborations, a symbol of the enduring relationships between artists and collector.
DESTE's shows, curated by some of the world's top curators, have included works by Jeff Koons, Tim Noble and Sue Webster, Mike Kelley, Maurizio Cattelan and Barry McGee, attracting worldwide attention and recognition, and constantly broadening the audience for contemporary art. An 'inquiring mind' for the art world, the DESTE Foundation has also initiated a number of ongoing projects: the DESTE Prize, awarded biannually to an emerging Greek artist, the Hydra Slaughterhouse Project and the destefashioncollection.
BENAKI MUSEUM
The Benaki Museum ranks among the major institutions that have enriched the material assets of the Greek state. It is also the oldest museum in Greece operating as a Foundation under Private Law. Through its extensive collections that cover several different cultural fields and its more general range of activities serving more than one social need, the Benaki Museum is perhaps the sole instance of a complex structure within the broader network of museum foundations in Greece.
Permanent Collection, Greece at the Benaki Museum
This group of collections comprises many distinct categories totalling more than 40,000 items, illustrating the character of the Greek world through a spectacular historical panorama: from antiquity and the age of Roman domination to the medieval Byzantine period; from the fall of Constantinople (1453) and the centuries of Frankish and Ottoman occupation to the outbreak of the struggle for independence in 1821; and from the formation of the modern state of Greece (1830) down to 1922, the year in which the Asia Minor disaster took place.
